Goalkeepers require specialist training which we believe at a development centre level is largely best carried out where the coaches can concentrate on their needs, rather than outfield players. We have therefore designed a structured programme of training exercises and drills that enable goalkeepers to receive 4 hours of intense coaching over 2 sessions with a third session where they join the outfield players for their shooting session.
Goalkeepers are not expected to attend the other outfield player sessions 1-4.
We have also arranged for John Hurst, GB Goalkeeping Coach to give a specialist masterclass session in early 2009, which all our goalkeepers attending the development centre programmes will be invited to attend. Details of this date will be available shortly. A schedule of coaching sessions per age group is as follows
